In 2012, GA Pet Food Partners embarked on a journey that would revolutionise the pet food industry. True to GA’s core values, we decided to invest significantly in technology that would not only provide our partners with unique positioning and selling opportunities but also, crucially, provide pets with a diet rich in nutrients using freshly prepared ingredients. The result of this ambition was “Freshtrusion”.

Freshtrusion® – A Scientific Support Paper

Dr Adrian Hewson-Hughes, a Nutrition, Food Safety and Innovation Advisor, has written a scientific support paper explaining how Freshtrusion® allows GA Pet Food Partners to create the world’s finest pet food.

Freshtrusion starts in the farms and fisheries we know and trust.

From Farms and Fisheries We Know and Trust

The Freshtrusion journey begins with our trusted farms and fisheries, where we collect only the finest fresh meats and fish, providing partner brands with fantastic stories of provenance and traceability.

Using our own refrigerated transport to maintain the highest quality conditions, we collect the meats and bring them back to our production site here in Lancashire, England, where they undergo extensive quality testing before being used in our partners’ unique recipes.

As part of the Freshtrusion journey, our Meat Kitchens gently cook the meats at 82°C to protect the protein, making it more flavoursome and nutritious to the pets.
The Freshtrusion difference is we select only the finest fresh meats and fish for our pet food recipes from farms and fisheries we know and trust

The Meat Kitchen

In our on-site Meat Kitchen, we gently cook each meat at circa 82ºC (180ºF) to protect the proteins and ensure maximum digestibility and nutritional value to the pet. Using world-leading technology, we can also reduce the moisture content of the freshly prepared meat and include higher amounts of fresh meat in market-leading recipes.

In addition, we are able to produce separate high-quality oils from our fresh ingredients of known provenance and add these to bespoke recipes, providing further USPs in the market.

Freshtrusion Means More Fresh Meat Inclusion

We understand that pets know fresh is best; that’s why fresh meat is our passion. Using our unique process, we develop recipes that offer unique selling points in the marketplace, boasting the highest levels of fresh meat inclusion and providing pets with the most flavoursome and nutritionally beneficial mealtime.

Traditional Category 3 Meat Meal in pet food recipes has denatured proteins due to the high temperature need during cooking to kill off the bacteria accumulated from being left in ambient temperatures for a period time.

A freshly prepared fresh salmon can be gently cooked by our Freshtrusion experts as the cold chain transportation has kept the meats chilled from the source to our production facilities. This results in a far superior, tastier pet food.

Protected Protein

Freshtrusion Protects the Protein

Animal material used to produce dried meat meal is not collected fresh at the source, nor is it transported using refrigerated containers. Instead, it is collected from various locations and sent at ambient temperatures to a rendering plant. It is processed at very high temperatures (300ºF/150ºC) to extract moisture, separate fat, and kill bacteria.

This process can also denature the protein and result in it being less digestible and, therefore, of lower nutritional value to the pet. In contrast, our gentle cooking approach ensures the proteins are protected, thus providing increased bioavailability to the pet.

At GA Pet Food Partners, we press our own oils on-site in small batches using dedicated equipment that operates similar to a kitchen salad spinner where the oil is squeezed away from the meat. These oils are not your usual high temperature rendered 'pet food grade' oils. They are so fresh the laboratory testing finds little to no signs of oxidisation or ageing. That's the Freshtrusion difference.

Human-Grade Quality Oils and Fats

At GA Pet Food Partners, we press our own oils on-site in small batches using dedicated equipment that operates similarly to a kitchen salad spinner, where the oil is squeezed away from the meat.

This allows us to coat the kibbles with amazing high-quality fats and oils, normally seen in human foods, and gives us full traceability back to the source—from the farm, fishery, or boat.

The marketing potential, along with exceptional palatability and traceability, is second to none. These oils are not your usual high-temperature rendered ‘pet-food-grade’ oils. They are so fresh, the laboratory testing finds little to no signs of oxidisation or ageing.
